News » Melinda McCann from Makana Edutourism and the Everest Anti-Poaching Trek

The administrator of Makana Edutourism Melinda McCann, will be embarking on the Everest Base Camp Trek from 20 October to 9 November 2012, on a quest to appreciate the majesty of the Himalaya and to actively promote and support a heartfelt campaign – the end of the slaughter and mutilation of Our Rhino.

Thw Everest Base Camp Rhino Anti-Poaching Trek aims to support the complementary campaigns that integrate awareness and protection (proactive) with essential treatment (reactive) initiatives, namely the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) “Rhino Project” and the “Thandi Rhino Treatment Initiative”.

Melinda's trekking, training and casual clothes together with her trekking equipment and a flag-cum-scarf, will carry the the Everest base camp anti-poaching trek logo, for use before, during and after the trek. Ms McCann raised funds through directly requesting sponsorship and donations as well as prizes which she aims to raffle before the end of this year. At least half of all funds raised this year towards the Trek will be split equally between the EWT and Thandi Rhino anti-poaching initiatives, unless a sponsor selects one, or another, initiative. To ensure clear record-keeping and transparency, the raffle draw will be held in a public forum and a dedicated bank account will be used for all funds raised.

The Facebook page (EverestRhinoTrek2012) and blog spot (everestrapt.wordpress.com) dedicated to the Everest Rhino Anti-Poaching Trek provides an overview of the Trek and how it evolved, together with links and information about various Rhino protection and treatment initiatives, as well as details of the Trek itself. All sponsors and sponsorships (funds, prizes and/or kit) will be acknowledged on this page, which will updated, as far as feasible, with written and photographic records throughout the training and the Trek itself.

In addition to acknowledgement on the Facebook page and blogspot, all sponsors will be acknowledged in any interviews and press coverage leading up to, during and after, the Trek.

Thanks to all who have sponsored Melinda and inter alia EWT Rhino Project and Thandi Rhino, thus far!!
